Tasting Notes
In a different league to most proseccos at this price. It's extremely elegant boasting a very fine bead and delcate fruit, not like some of those more oxidative stlyes.
Caneva, in the Friuli region, was colonised as far back as the Roman times and was appreciated and famous even back then for the excellent quality of the products originating here. In the local dialect, Caneva means 'Cantina " and was the locality where the noble Venetian Mocenigo family owned a vast estate. As early as the 1500's this estate was producing excellent wines for the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Some years later, the historian, Apostolo Zeno, wrote that the wines produced on the 'banks of its hills " were the 'most exquisite and delicate and of the highest possible quality ". Today, Ca' de Mocenigo continues the tradition of producing high quality wines on those declaimed 'banks ". The company has been owned by the Martinuzzo family since 1950 and this ownership has gradually renovated the vineyards over the years, selecting the hardiest plants and propagating them by 'root cuttings ". The company has a achieved perfect management in the engineers Paolo Martinuzzo and Virgilio Naibo, who look after the production on the fields, and the enologist, Adriano Zaccariotto, who puts his years of experience in Friuli region winemaking in managing the vinification processes.
