Tasting Notes

Savagnin from Jura is a fascinating white; with the good ones like this never ceasing to surprise. This Savagnin is made in an oxidative style (purposely exposed to oxygen in the winery), but still so clean and long lasting, thanks to great acidity. Let it open and come to 12-16 degrees to enjoy the ripe stone fruit with a nutty (imagine fortified) touch on nose and palate. Powerful and lingering, but that's not big alcohol related (13.5%). Expect light yellowish colour at pouring, but that comes with the style - it is so fresh and clean. Drink with food please - like seafood or white meats, with simple or with richer sauces; or with cheeses. - Michael L

If you know me well you'll know I've always adored the Jura and its wines. This is my favourite exploration from the Jura this year. 100% Savagnin grown on the marnes blanches (white marl soils) of the Jura that are deep limestone-clays. The wine is made in a rather oxidative fashion but without the use of flor, which means the wine will be savoury and powerful but it will still maintain it's freshness and tight acidity that holds it all together. This is a wine of terroir and personality, and I absolutely love it to the very last drop. - Chris L

Pauline and Geraud Fromont began Domaine des Marnes Blanches in 2006. Their certified organic vineyards are located in the Jura's Sud Revermont region, which is also home to a lot of the Jura's natural wine producers (including Ganevat). The estate is 10 hectares planted on white marl soils, as the domaine's name suggests. They produce 2 main styles of wine; topped up (ouille) and oxidative (sous voile) for which they have 2 different cellars to mature the wines in their ideal conditions. They are young and energetic producers which is reflected in their living wines. A producer fit for every wine lovers table and one to watch into the future. - Chris L
