Tasting Notes

I think these wines have a great story (read below) and the wines themselves are just as great. From Lazio, the region that surrounds Rome, this red wine made from Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, is a light bodied red that has a very obvious tannin structure to it. Oodles of red fruits and a touch of herbal character to it. Freakin delicious! - Chris L

Pour the first glass and you may think the light red colour and 12.5% alc suggests something simple - but looks may deceive. I reckon it needs 1-2 hours decanted, to let the red fruit show-up on both the nose and palate. It's a fine boned red with good acidity; plus that herbs' edge. Food to match - think protein, even a good meaty pizza. - Michael L

About an hour drive North of Rome, the monastery was opened in 1957, when the community moved in, and today has around 80 sisters. The order is the 'Cistercense della Stretta Osservanza', also known as Trappist, who obeys the Benedictine principle of the 'ora et labora' (pray and work) and intends the work above all in the manual sense, therefore also agricultural. Here at this quiet religious outpost, this religious order works vineyards and orchards and gardens organically. Under the guidance of the Bea family, the sisters tend the vineyard without machinery and are invested in low-intervention practices. They ferment with only naturally occurring yeasts and follow organic wine-making practices. - Importer Note
