The 2016 season was a delight for us… once again we were spared extreme weather events and experienced mild and ideal growing conditions. Healthy vineyards contributed to what we will view retrospectively as one of the best growing seasons. The great conditions continued through to harvest with impeccable fruit arriving in the winery from which we hope you will agree, has resulted in some seriously delicious wines!!
The wines show their hallmark of elegance coexisting with intensity of fine savoury earthy flavours. There’s a subtle hint of dry herb and spice - but that in itself is part of the complexity of character. Once again the terroir for the L’ami sage and Les cinq single vineyard wines speak so clearly and distinctly. We maintain a very consistent approach to the viticulture, harvest and vinification yet they each present as such unique individuals!
Les cinq has intense, enticing darker red fruit aromas followed by the expected savoury, fleshy and earthy character of this wine. The L’ami sage in 2016 reflects more perfume and elegance, yet, paradoxically exhibiting both subtlety and power. The fine tannin structure builds on the palate and as with the Les cinq, there is a generosity together with a long complex and balanced fresh finish. Whilst these wines are delicious to enjoy now, we believe cellaring for 15 or more years will delight the patient collector. - Winery Note
A paradigm shift for Ruth and George Mihaly saw us surrender our established careers in food for Ruth and medical research for George to viticulture and winemaking respectively.
We have always been passionate about food and wine and our obsessive pursuit of quality and commitment to ecologically responsible practices led us to establish our ideal and environmentally sustainable vineyard/home site on the Mornington Peninsula.
The overriding focus is on achieving balanced healthy vines producing carefully selected, exceptional & low yielding fruit.
We therefore have only estate grown wines - showing elegance and intensity ‚– but always a purity of varietal expression for each wine - Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir & Shiraz,.. The journey continues,. - Winery Note
