Much deeper fruit than the current release. It's great to see where these wines can go. Dark berry, blackcurrant characters, joined by a bay leaf and gamey savouriness. Light pepper spice adds interest, before leading into a deep and concentrated palate full of plush, dark fruits and game. Brilliant. - Felix G
One of the biggest characters in the Australian wine scene is German-born, Yarra-based, funk-bringer, Timo Mayer. His energy and charm, not to mention the quality of his wines, have brought this larger-than-life vigneron into the spotlight.
Timo comes from the school of thought that great wine is made in the vineyard. In this way, he describes himself as 'just a farmer.' But of course, he's a lot more than that. His method is one of minimal intervention, utilising whole bunch fermentation to truly express the character of the vineyards from which the fruit comes. Similarly, all of his wines are unfined and unfiltered, so as not to remove any flavour or texture from the finished products. The result is a collection of wines that display elegance and finesse, with layers of texture, complexity and balance. Oh, and they're absolutely delicious too.
