Translation missing: en.Roussillon: Roussillon
Roussillon is a region that borders Spain and the Mediterranean Sea. It showcases a unique blend of Spanish and French influence with a dynamic number of wine styles coming from the region - the Banyuls red dessert wines are to die for!
Just like Languedoc, the wines from Roussillon are often well-priced compared to the more well-known appellations in France.
LOCATION:
Roussillon is located in the south of France. Nestled between the Pyrenees, the Spanish border and the Mediterranean Sea.
TERROIR:
Roussillon is a hot, dry climate with a strong Mediterranean influence. Most of the vineyards are perched on clifftops or nestled within a natural amphitheater in the foothills of the Pyrenees. There is a lot of variation in the soil from the limestone-rich red soils around the Corbières to the stony, sandy, clay, and silt soils near the coast.
VARIETIES:
The key white varieties of Roussillon include: white and grey Grenache, Maccabeu, white Carignan, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier, Vermentino, Muscat à petits grains and Muscat d’Alexandrie. The main red grapes in the region are: Grenache, Lledoner Pelut, Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.
