LOCATION:
Calabria is located at the toe of Italy’s boot, bordered by Basilicata to the north and surrounded by the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas.
TERROIR:
The region’s vineyards are often found on the slopes of the Sila and Aspromonte mountain ranges. Soils range from clay-limestone to sandy coastal sites. The Mediterranean climate is hot and dry, but altitude and coastal breezes can moderate temperatures.
VARIETIES:
Gaglioppo is the signature red grape of Calabria, producing earthy, tannic wines with dried cherry and spice notes. Greco Bianco and Mantonico are key whites, often used in still and passito styles.
