Translation missing: en.MARCHE: MARCHE
Often overlooked in favour of neighbouring Tuscany or Abruzzo, Marche is a coastal region producing excellent white wines, particularly from Verdicchio, and increasingly interesting reds from indigenous and international varieties.
LOCATION:
Situated along the Adriatic coast in central Italy, bordered by Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, and Abruzzo.
TERROIR:
Hilly inland zones give way to flatter plains near the coast. Verdicchio performs best in the clay-limestone soils of Jesi and Matelica. The region’s varied topography provides excellent conditions for fresh, balanced wines.
VARIETIES:
Verdicchio is the flagship white, prized for its texture, green apple fruit, and aging potential. For reds, Montepulciano and Sangiovese are joined by Lacrima and Vernaccia Nera in smaller zones.
PRODUCERS:
Oasi degli Angeli, Villa Bucci, Umani Ronchi, Fattoria San Lorenzo, La Staffa, Fontezopa, Contrada Contro
