Translation missing: en.MOLISE: MOLISE
Italy’s second smallest region, Molise is often overlooked entirely and there is a joke in Italy that “Molise non esiste”. But it quietly produces characterful wines from a mix of native and familiar varieties, particularly in the hilly inland areas.
LOCATION:
South-central Italy, sandwiched between Abruzzo to the north and Puglia to the south.
TERROIR:
Mountainous inland terrain with clay-limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate
moderated by altitude. Much of the region is still wild and undeveloped.
VARIETIES:
Montepulciano and Aglianico are the key reds, producing medium- to full-bodied wines with dark fruit and spice. Trebbiano and Malvasia dominate whites, though rarely of note.
