Puglia is a region in southern Italy known most for its full-bodied, juicy red wines. These wines can offer great value and variety for fans of the bigger classic Aussie red wines but there are also some hidden gems that can produce some more elegant expressions of the robust reds as well.
LOCATION:
Puglia is located in the south east corner of Italy, on the heel of the “boot”.
TERROIR:
Puglia’s hot Mediterranean climate, sunshine and seabreezes make it ideal for viticulture. The soils tends to be cretaceous limestone under layers of iron-rich quaternary deposits.
VARIETIES:
The main red varieties in Puglia are Primitivo, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia and Sangiovese while the most common whites are Fiano and Verdeca.
