Frank Cornelissen

So why do people go crazy for the wines of this quietly-spoken Belgian man, living and working on the slopes of Etna? It's partly to do with the US rapper Action Bronson, who blew these wines up in an episode of F*ck That's Delicious on Viceland a few years ago. But the hype has remained due to the fact that the wines are absolutely delicious.

In this instance, it's not just a case of emperor's-new-clothes. Frank produces a stunning array of reds, whites and rosati that showcase the unique terroir of the Etna region. Frank is unapologetically  "natural" in his approach, believing that even Biodynamic practices are a bridge too far:  "Our farming philosophy is based on our acceptance of the fact that man will never be able to understand nature’s full complexity and interactions. We therefore choose to concentrate on observing and learning the movements of Mother Earth in her various energetic and cosmic passages and prefer to follow her indications as to what to do, instead of deciding and imposing ourselves." Similarly, there are no additions whatsoever in the winery - yeast or sulphur - with Frank relying on the quality of his fruit and the natural phenolics to keep the wine stable. Perhaps it is this ultimate non-interventionist approach that has earned him the following that he has.

We have a limited amount of this year's release of Susucaru Rosso, Rosato, Munjebel Rosso, Munjebel Bianco plus a selection of his Contrada releases and believe me when I tell you that these are some of the finest wines coming from Mt. Etna.

The Frank Pack's are back in stock, there is a limited number of single bottles available of both Susucaru cuvees and small amounts of the Contrada releases available too.

In-Store Tasting:

Chateau Mont Redon

This Saturday, August 13th

3pm - 6pm

Join us this Saturday in-store to taste a selection of wines from Southern Rhone Superstar, Chateau Mont Redon. Gary, from Vintage & Vine will be here to guide you through a selection of wines from this historic estate.

We've been big supporters of the Mont Redon wines and have had the pleasure of tasting aged releases of their Chateauneuf du Pape's dating back to the mid 70's. These wines embody the best of the region and boy do they age well!

"With almost 100 hectares under vine, the majority of Mont-Redon's vineyards are located in the appellations most favoured area, the high plateau which is covered in the large round pudding stones that Châteauneuf is so well known for. This remarkable property is in fact a single vineyard. There has been considerable investment at Mont-Redon over the past twelve years. The entire winery has been completely renewed and is now climate controlled. Rows of oak barriques have replaced the old large foudres of yester-year, and large temperature controlled stainless steel vats now line the walls, resulting in wines of freshness and finesse in both red and white wines. More recently optical sorting machines at harvest time have resulted in wines of great precision. Mont-Redon is a candidate for the most improved producer and the best value producer of the Southern Rhone." - Vintage and Vine

Never tried a Chateauneuf du Pape before? Well good news! We will have a bottle of Mont Redon Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 2018 as well as a few others wines from the estate open to taste.

See you on Saturday!

WINE OF THE WEEK

Claus Preisinger Puszta Libre Zweigelt St Laurent 2021

What a cool wine... and no boring bits! Made from 2 native Austrian grapes varieties: Zweigelt and St Laurent. It's medium bodied succulent fruit profile with leafy undertones really characterises these 2 varieites. Dark fruited and slightly reductive so don't be afraid to give it a decant and chill slightly. Great value, even better times! - Chris L
