Eleni and Edouard Vocoret

We are particularly excited to have our latest allocation of Eleni & Edouard Vocoret back on the shelves, as we have surmised that each year seems to get better and better. The bottle accompanying Pete’s 2020 Christmas lunch made his day pretty great, but if he can get his hands on our stash before it disappears, even a locked down Christmas could not rain on his parade.

Edouard Vocoret comes from good Chablis stock: Domaine Vocoret has been in his family since 1870. But like a lockdown has shown some of us lucky ones that we value and love our family as much as we value and love space from them, Edouard and his wife Eleni decided in 2013 to break free from the mould. Purchasing 5 hectares from Papa and Grand-Père Vocoret, they went out on their own, Edouard reflecting ‘my dad never told us what to do, he said “Here’s your vines, you make the wine the way you want”’.

And that they did. Eleni and Edouard began experimenting with natural yeasts and ploughing to express the terroir of the parcels Edouard had earmarked when working on his father’s vines in his youth. Le Bas de Chapelot 2019 for example is a lieu-dit that sits, as the name suggests if you pardon my French, at the base of Chapelot, a Premièr Cru Chablis climat of Montée de Tonnerre, known for its power. The great power that comes from this site is handled with great responsibility, resulting in wines of beautiful weight and texture.

In-Store Tasting:

Domaine Truchetet

This Saturday, August 6th

3pm - 6pm

Join us this Saturday in-store to taste a selection of Burgundies from Domaine Truchetet. Importer, Jeremy Wilcox of Ergo Wines will be here to guide us through this gorgeous set of wines.

Domaine Truchetet have never been imported into Australia before so this will be one of the first times the wines have been shown to the public and available for sale.

Family run for six generations, Julie and Morgan Truchetet took over the estate from their father in 2018 and are in the process of transitioning to organic and regenerative farming to help them harness and highlight their terroir.

Jeremy really sums it up quite well...

"Truchetet is about showing site, expression and harmony. The younger generation taking the reins & putting their focus and work into vineyards, vitality and natural energy."

This is a tasting you will not want to miss.

WINE OF THE WEEK

Gemtree Bloodstone Shiraz 2019

Organically and biodynamically farmed Shiraz from McLaren Vale doesn't get much better value than this. Good density, polished red fruits and pepper spice. Unbelieveable value here and one of my favourite finds for an everyday, full-bodied quaffer. - Chris L

Keke Descombes

We’ve been waiting for these to come back in stock for a little while now… Always really popular in store and definitely worth trying while we have them. Kewin Descombes is the son of legendary producer George Descombes whose wines we have also just received. Kéké's first vintage was in 2013 at the young age of 21 using parcels of fruit that his father has been gradually transferring over to him.

He adopts a very similar approach to his father in the vineyard and winery so we are talking about a focus on organic viticulture nurturing the old vines. Wild yeast ferments, minimal to no sulphur additions, semi carbonic maceration and elevage is all done in oak.

His wines are structured and elegant with uplifting acidity and sit alongside some of the very best producers from the region. To be making wines of this calibre at such a young age is certainly something to be excited about.
