Wine Fair

Saturday March 21st

1pm - 5pm

It's that time of year again!

WINE FAIR TIME!

Our first Wine Fair of the year is happening on Saturday, 21st of March from 1-5pm!

For this wine fair, we’re slowing things down and going deeper. Each exhibitor will be pouring wines from a single producer, offering a chance to properly explore their range, philosophy, and style. Expect thoughtful tastings, great chats, and plenty of exciting bottles, all guided by the people who know these wines inside out.

We will be featuring wines from:

Commune Of Buttons

Commune of Buttons is the natural wine project of Jasper Button, based on the family’s Fernglen farm in Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills. Working with small plots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo planted in the 1990s, Jasper farms organically and biodynamically, focusing on healthy soils and expressive fruit. In the cellar the approach is minimal and thoughtful, with gentle handling and low intervention to let the site shine through. The wines are known for their freshness, texture and clear sense of place.

Cantina Orsogna

Founded in 1964, Cantina Orsogna is a co-operative winery located in the Majella hills of Abruzzo, just 15 km from the Adriatic. Known for its organic and biodynamic wines, it is the largest producer of such wines in southern Italy, with over 1,100 hectares of vines—80% organic and 30% biodynamic certified by Demeter. Named ‘Italian Winery of the Year’ in 2012, the winery has been biodynamic since 2005 and has a skilled winemaking team led by Camillo Zulli. The Lunaria wines are also Demeter-certified biodynamic.

Les Fruits

Les Fruits is the winemaking project of Tim Stock, using organically and biodynamically farmed grapes sourced from the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley. Produced in a shed in the Basket Range, the winemaking is simple and minimal.

Somos

Somos is the project of Mauricio Ruiz Cantú, a Mexican-born winemaker who settled in Australia after studying viticulture and winemaking. The focus is on Mediterranean varieties suited to Australia’s warm climate, sourced mainly from organic and biodynamic vineyards. Using native fermentations and minimal intervention in the cellar, the wines are vibrant, fresh and expressive, built around drinkability and a strong sense of place.

Pyramid Valley

Pyramid Valley is one of New Zealand’s most respected estates, known for its site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from carefully farmed vineyards. Founded in North Canterbury and now working with exceptional sites across the country, the winery follows organic and biodynamic principles to capture the character of each vineyard. The wines are thoughtful, textured and precise, balancing purity of fruit with a strong sense of place.

Vinea Marson

Vinea Marson is a small family-run winery in central Victoria founded by Mario Marson, one of the early champions of Italian grape varieties in Australia. Since the 1990s the Marson family has focused on grapes such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis, grown in the warm, mineral-rich soils around Heathcote. The winemaking approach is traditional and hands-off, aiming to let the varieties speak clearly. The wines are savoury, structured and food-friendly, offering a distinctly Italian feel with an Australian sense of place.

Basket Range Wine

Basket Range Wines is the small, hands-on project of winemaker Sholto Broderick in the Adelaide Hills. Working with organically grown fruit from cool-climate vineyards around Basket Range, the focus is on gentle, low-intervention winemaking that lets the character of the site and vintage come through. Fermentations are natural, sulphur is used sparingly, and the wines are handled as little as possible. The result is a range of vibrant, expressive wines that have become a defining part of the modern Basket Range scene.

Tenuta Mazzolino

Mazzolino is a leading estate in Lombardy’s Oltrepò Pavese, founded in the early 1980s by the Braggiotti family. Working from south-facing vineyards on clay limestone soils, the winery focuses on producing refined, terroir driven wines, with Pinot Nero as its flagship variety. Careful vineyard work and thoughtful winemaking result in wines that balance freshness, structure and polish.

Gentle Folk

Gentle Folk is the Adelaide Hills project of Gareth and Rainbo Belton, former marine scientists who swapped the world of algae research for winemaking in Basket Range. Since 2013 they have focused on sustainably farmed vineyards and minimal-intervention winemaking, producing vibrant, site-driven wines that highlight the character of the hills. Their highly regarded Single wines showcase fruit from carefully tended sites and has become a standout part of the modern Adelaide Hills wine scene.

Della Staffa
Conestabile della Staffa is a historic Umbrian estate whose winemaking roots date back to the 1700s. After decades without production, the vineyards were revived by Danilo Marcucci, who released the estate’s first wines in over 60 years in 2015. Today the wines are made naturally with spontaneous fermentations, no additions and minimal intervention, reflecting both the estate’s long history and Marcucci’s influential role in Italy’s natural wine movement.

Rivulet Wines

Rivulet Wines is a small Tasmanian project focused on crafting expressive, small-batch wines from carefully selected vineyards across the island. Founded by Kiera O'Brien who has spent years working with leading Tasmanian growers, the label allows for a more playful and hands-on approach in the cellar. With a light touch and a focus on texture, purity and balance, the wines aim to capture the distinctive character of Tasmania’s cool-climate sites.

Yohan Lardy
Yohan Lardy is one of the rising stars of Beaujolais, farming old Gamay vines across Fleurie, Moulin à Vent and Chénas. Working organically with a strong focus on biodiversity, he produces small micro cuvées with minimal intervention in the cellar. The wines are fermented naturally with very little sulphur, resulting in vibrant, expressive Gamay with depth and energy.

Tickets are $50 and include a Plum tasting glass to take home. On the day, enjoy 20% off any six bottles from the event (usually 15%), plus a free Annandale Cellars tote bag with any purchase of 6 bottles or more. A great excuse to stock up on your favourites.

Bell Hill

Bell Hill have been quietly crafting some of the best Chardonnay and Pinots this side of Europe from New Zealand’s north island in the region of Canterbury. Bell Hill is based on an old limestone quarrying operation (much like Burgundy) which led them to explore the history and geology of the site in more detail. The name “Bell Hill” comes from a bell-shaped curve on the south side which is the first thing travelers saw as they came in to Waikari Valley. The first Bell Hill wines were released in 2003 and have since helped build the reputation of the region for one of the best Pinot sites outside of the Côte d'Or.

"We seek to reflect the characteristic expression of our site and soil in the wines we make, looking for consistent quality, fruit concentration and expression of terroir."

Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn Veldhuizen have adopted a very Burgundian approach to vineyard management on their fabled site in the Weka Pass, North Canterbury with limestone soils on north-facing slopes. Vines are planted low to the ground - only 40cm above the soil and all vines are densely planted to reduce yields and encourage the roots to explore the soil to soak up all the water, nutrients and any other elements it can get. All vines planted between 1997-2009 were planted at a density of 9,090 to12,500 vines/ha, then vines planted from 2005-2009 at 11,363 vines/ha and vines planted from 2020-2022 up to as high as 18,181 vines/ha. These are some very serious wines that have been picking up awards for these hard-working vignerons and have been garnering much-deserved international acclaim.

The newest allocation from Bell Hill has just rolled in, including their top exclusive single vineyard wines! We have the '21 'Chardonnay' which comes from 3 parcels including the top sites that weren't bottled individually in this vintage and sees 7% new, 50% 1 year old, and 33% 3-year-old French oak for an elevage of 12 months before racking and blending with a further 8 months in tank. This Chardonnay is fresh, vibrant, flinty and salty. We have the '21 'Pinot Noir' (as well as a single bottle left of the 2020) which comes from multiple parcels and ages in 100% new French oak for 12 months before being transferred to tank for 8 months to settle before bottling. This Pinot is always amazing and can easily rival Burgundy's great village wines. This is the first time we've seen these single vineyard wines. The '20 'Limeworks Chardonnay' was whole bunch pressed and aged in French oak with 30% new for 12 months followed by racking and blending and a further 9 months in tank before bottling. This is an elegant and poised wine that will slowly reveal more of its complexities over time. James Suckling gave this 100 points and there are only 654 bottles produced! The '20 'Shelf Pinot Noir' sees 12 months elevage in 100% new French oak before a further 9 months in tank. This is a deeply complex but shy wine in it's youth that will open up with time like all the great wines of Burgundy. This is one of the best producers of Chardonnay and Pinot outside of Burgundy, see what all the hype is about for yourself!

Dureuil-Janthial

Vincent Dureuil's wines have been soaring in popularity and acclaim in recent years, making easily the best wines in Rully that can hold up to the greats of the Côte d'Or. After winning the 2019 Winemaker of the Year from La Revue du Vin de France and having his wines praised by the likes of Will Kelley and Neal Martin, his wines have been on the radar of everyone serious about wine.

Despite what may appear to be an overnight success, Vincent has been working for over 25 years with his family's vines, predominantly in Rully. There are no secrets - Vincent works with what we have to expect to produce high quality, terroir-driven wines i.e. excellent sites, old vines, perfectionist and strictly organic viticulture, natural fermentations, no fining or filtration, and fastidious cellar work. It is said that he spends up to 14 hours a day with his vines during the growing season!

This year's allocation has just landed and there's only a small amount to go around - some of these have started selling within 15 minutes of putting them online this afternoon!. The '22 'Bourgogne Blanc' comes from a parcel of 50 year old vines in the lieu-dit of La Combe in Puligny-Montrachet, planted on silt, clay and limestone soils. With 20% new oak, this is a baby Puligny-Montrachet. The '22 'Rully Blanc' is sourced from a few plots in Rully with vines averaging 40 years (the oldest close to 100) and also sees 20% new oak to produce beautiful wine of tension and flesh. The '22 'Rully Maizieres Blanc' comes from a warmer site in the east of the village with vines planted in 1997 making a unique single vineyard wine with a bit more weight than the regular Rully. The '22 'Rully Le Meix Cadot 1er Blanc' comes from a chalky mini plateau in the east of Rully from vines planted in 1980 to create a wine bursting with detail and energy and we've unfortunately already sold all of our '22 'Rully Les Margotes 1er Blanc'. Of the reds, we have the '22 'Bourgogne Rouge' which comes from some select plots in the Côte de Nuits from vines averaging 40 years and the '22 'Rully Rouge' from a few plots with vines of 50 years old on average, a touch of whole-bunch fermentation and 12 months in a third of new oak as well as the '22 'Rully En Guesnes Rouge'. We also have a couple bottles of the '22 'Rully Chapitre 1er Rouge' coming from clayey soils from vines planted in 1958 to create a succulent and spicy Pinot. Finally, there is a bottle left of the '22 'Nuits Saint Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Rouge' hailing from east-facing vines planted in 1942 next to Domaine l’Arot’s Clos de l’Arlot. These wines are sought-after all over the world now, we don't expect these to last long!
