I had the pleasure of attending a big Austrian tasting a couple days ago and was able to retaste this beauty. This wine walks a tightrope between citrus and stone fruit flavours with some nice white florals and salinity. Refreshing acid and some plushness to the body - this Riesling still drinks dry and can be drunk by itself or with some cheese or seafood. I know that Austrian Riesling is still a novelty category for many so this is your chance to see how good it is for yourself!

Spring BBQ

We have six bottles for the first proper barbecue weekend of the season. Warm afternoon, tongs in hand, a table of mates and no reason to be anywhere else. Prawns and oysters to start, then whatever else is going on the grill after that, with a few beers scattered through to keep everyone moving. Naturally, we open with bubbles. The Werkstatt Riesling Sekt out of Mount Gambier is dry, full of flavour and will take on a dozen oysters without blinking. For the whites, the Muller Catoir Pfalz Riesling comes in a full litre, which tells you most of what you need to know about the job it is built for and the Yangarra ‘Circle’ Piquepoul from McLaren Vale is crisp, fresh and the sort of thing people keep refilling without being asked. The Vino Friendo Rosato is Aleatico grown up at Hilltops, juicy and a little bit wild. Both reds welcome a chill. The Chateau Cambon Beaujolais is crunchy, fresh Gamay off organic vineyards and the Sierra de Tolono Rioja Tinto is organically farmed Tempranillo named after the range it sits beneath, rounder and deeper for the lamb once the sun drops. Twenty minutes in the fridge for the reds and you are set. Pick up some of these wines and have yourselves an amazing Spring BBQ!
