This week I've picked out a beautiful little Bordeaux for you to bring Winter to a close. This Bordeaux bucks the trend that the big Châteaux have set of making big, heavily tannic and oaked wines to appease Robert Parker. This wine comes from the underrated terroir of Castillon, just outside of Saint. Emilion and composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc without heavy oak influence. The resulting wine shows amazing red fruits and florals with incredibly fine, pure tannin. If you want to see the newer wave of wines coming out of Bordeaux, there is no better starting point than this wine!

The In-Between

Spring officially lands on Monday but nobody seems to have told the shop. I am still selling reds, I am still drinking them at home, and the switch to whites and rosé that usually arrives with the calendar has not happened yet. Honestly I am in no rush for it either. There is a bit of cold left in these last few days and it feels worth making the most of.

This time of year is the natural home of the medium bodied red. Too light and a wine gets lost against a proper winter meal, too heavy and it becomes hard work the moment the sun comes out. The ones that sit in the middle manage both. Generous enough for a roast this weekend, fresh enough that in a few weeks you can give them twenty minutes in the fridge and drink them with whatever spring puts on the table. These are the reds that do not get shelved in September.

So I have put together six of them, all wines I think are perfect for right now and will still be perfect come October.
