Funk up your life with a little Muscadet, sur lie style! Sur-lie is a French winemaking term that means "on lees". When a wine spends time on lees (dead yeast cells) it develops both nose and palate characteristics. Firstly, on the nose one may smell a stinky pong or yeast-like aroma and secondly on the palate a more viscous and textural element reminiscent of cream or butter.
This wine has a lot of sur-lie charm! Lean, mineral and definitely funky on the nose, with a richer than usual palate for muscadets without losing it's generous acidity. Muscadet is usually a great match with oysters, but this wine can handle some of those richer crustaceans - bugs, crab and prawns.
