Jean Foillard

2021 Release

The King of Côte du Py is back with another stellar release!

Jean Foillard produces some of the best wines in Beaujolais. He focuses on Morgon, one of the ten Crus of the region. His flagship Côte du Py unleashes the bloodthirsty vines as they grow over iron-rich shist soils, yet with an ethereal silkiness that only Foillard can spin. From the 80-year-old vines growing over the sandstone of Corcellette, Foillard draws a softer, floral yet vibrant wine, still just as hauntingly beautiful as his flagship.

Foillard is a member of the Kermit Lynch-appointed "Gang of Four"; together with Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean-Paul Thévenet, Foillard is a disciple of Jules Chauvet, the father of French natural winemaking, named so for his extensive studies into yeasts, working without sulfer additions and carbonic maceration. The Gang represent a return to traditions: true minimalist winemaking combined with meticulous farming practices, and avoiding the use of sprays or enzymes during the winemaking process. Foillard's wines undergo fermentation naturally as whole clusters slowly at low temp and are aged in old barrels purchased from the infamous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

These are pure, wholesome expressions of Gamay, layered with spice, elegant structure, fruit and a mineral streak. The cellaring potential is there, but oh, so is temptation... These wines reward both. - Peta W

Mauro Molino

Tasting 24th June

3pm - 6pm

2019 Barolo Release

Mauro Molino

"Credo che quello che sostentava tutto era l’orgoglio di voler mantenere a qualsiasi costo quel pezzo di terra, che attraverso le generazioni passate era arrivato chissà da dove."

I believe that what has sustained everything was the pride of wanting to maintain this piece of land at any cost, which through the generations past, they will know always from where it came. - Mauro Molino

Patience, as they say, is a virtue. When a young Mauro Molino graduated from the Scuola Enological di Alba in 1973, the vines tended by his father on the family property in La Morra had not yet reached maturity. So Mauro left his beloved home of Piedmont to embark on his winemaking career to the east in the region of Emilia-Romagna. The passing of his father Giovanni in 1979 summoned Mauro back to his motherland, and whilst securing some contract work for local agricultural associations, Mauro seized the opportunity to tend the vines and maintain the cellar that his father had bequeathed him.

Passing the torch from one generation to the next, Mauro's son Matteo and his daughter Mattina have each graduated from the same oenological college in the Piedmontese town of Alba as their father, to continue the family legacy of Viticoltore Mauro Molino. Respecting the traditions of the region, Matteo and Mattina have been instrumental in overseeing employment of environmentally sustainable practices in the working of their land, to ensure the legacy will continue its passing from generation to generation.

From Mauro's first release of Barolo from the amphitheatre-shaped Conca vineyard in 1982, the Molino family now oversee 18 hectares of vines in the region planted to Barbera d'Alba and d'Asti, a little Roero Arneis, and of course, the King of Wine, Nebbiolo.

Join Andreas in-store tomorrow as he pours an incredible lineup of Molino family wines, including three of their 2019 releases of Barolo: the perfumed Barolo DOCG, the elegant Barolo Bricco Luciani, and the powerful Barolo Gallinotto. - Peta W

Lambert Wines

2021 Nebbiolo Release

Luke Lambert is the enigmatic figure behind Lambert Wines. Rather than seeking the spotlight, Luke is quite a shy, softly spoken guy, who prefers to let his wines do the talking.

And boy, do they talk.

For many years we've been huge supporters of Luke's wines. The three wines he produces under his Lambert Wines label have garnered a cult following, especially the Nebbiolo which has become one of the most sought after Nebbioli produced in Australia. His Crudo range, which we featured towards the end of last year is always the first to be released from each vintage and offers an exciting snapshot of what is to follow from the Lambert wines, and you can still get your hands on the 2022 Chardonnay and Syrah released earlier this year in-store and online. For many of you these wines are not new and you know what we mean when we say these are some of the most exciting wines released each year. For those of you that haven't tried them, we can't recommend these wines enough.

But this week, Luke's 2021 Nebbiolo has landed.

I tried it yesterday for the first time, and for me, it definitely lived up to the hype. I would confidently class it amongst the best in the country, and for those with patience, it will be incredible in years to come.

They sell out every year so don't miss out. - Pete L
