Kewin Descombes
We’ve been waiting for Cuvée Kéké to come back in stock for a little while now… Always really popular in store and definitely worth trying while we have them. Kewin Descombes is the son of legendary producer George Descombes whose wines we will hopefully receive soon. Kewin's first vintage was in 2013 at the young age of 21 using parcels of fruit that his father has been gradually transferring over to him.
He adopts a very similar approach to his father in the vineyard and winery so we are talking about a focus on organic viticulture nurturing the old vines. Wild yeast ferments, minimal to no sulphur additions, semi carbonic maceration and elevage is all done in oak.
His wines are structured and elegant with uplifting acidity and sit alongside some of the very best producers from the region. To be making wines of this calibre at such a young age is certainly something to be excited about. Something else to be excited about is for the first time ever we have been offered a small parcel of Moulin-à-Vent (six bottles) from Kewin's latest release! This is a deeper, more structured example of Gamay that offers dark berry and cherry accented with spice that offers power and detail. Truly special. - Pete L

Momento Mori
Saturday 11th of November
3-6PM
Join us on Saturday to taste through the new releases from Momento Mori.
Momento Mori and most recently, Nikau Farm were founded by Dane Johns, a native New Zealander who honed his craft working for Gippsland legend Bill Downie. Bill is a legend in his own right and someone who definitely helped Dane forge his own path as he now follows a very similar ideology in his winemaking and viticulture.
Dane under the artwork that is the Momento Mori label focusses mainly on Italian varietals sourced from the Chalmers Vineyard, even his Syrah gets a splash of Nosiola! All of his wines are as hand made as it gets…. Small wild ferments, no new oak, no mechanical pumps, filtration, no additions other than the a very small dose of SO2 before bottling for some wines if needed. Given the nature of his operation there are only ever very small volumes of wine produced each year and for those fans of Momento Mori they get snapped up quickly.
We will be tasting a couple of crowd favourites from Dane, namely the Fistful of Flowers skin contact blend of Vermentino and Moscato Giallo and The Incline Red plus the debut of two new wines, Nazomi which a rose made from Schioppettino, Syrah and Vermentino and Everything Is Free, a light red made from Nero d'Avola and Moscato Giallo which is perfect drinking as it warms up. - Pete L
