Pedemontis Tasting

Saturday 22nd

3pm-6pm

Join us this Saturday for another banger of a tasting with the wines of Pedemontis to follow up last week's return to Saturday tastings.

Pedemontis is a family-run estate best known for the family’s truffle farming in Alba, Piemonte. This is the first time their wines specifically are being imported into Australia; they are showing beautifully as representations of traditional Piemontese grapes between Roero and Langhe, grown sustainably and with an incredible effort to maintain a low carbon footprint. These are the wines we'll be showing on the day:

2022 ‘Jaiet’ Favorita, Langhe DOC
2022 ‘Arajs’ Arneis, Roero DOCG
2021 ‘Djun’ Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC
2021 ‘Bajet’ Barbera d’Alba DOC

Don't miss out on what is most likely one of the first public tastings of this producer ever in Australia. See you there!

New Spanish Arrivals

We've got some exciting new wines from Spain on our shelves that we're very excited to spread the word about. We've made some effort to expand and diversify our Spanish range after listening to so many customers asking about Spanish wines (and it can be easy to get caught up in French and Italian wines).

We've selected a range of Spanish reds that we believe represent excellent value and can proudly sell to our curious customers. Spanish wines in general tend to be great value in general and even the more expensive wines here outperform their price point.

The Abeica is an excellent cheaper option that is friendly and approachable. The Cesar Marquez Mencia is arguably the best wine in the shop for under $50 - any Pinotphiles that haven't moved on to Mencia are sorely missing out. The Palacios and Mentridana Garnachas (Grenache) are fantastic examples of this grape in the hands of Spanish masters. Muga is a classic Rioja, big but elegant and complex and the Lopez de Heredia is an icon of the region producing some extremely sought-after elegant wines.

There is something here for everyone. Drink up!

Dormilona

Dormilona is a little boutique winery based in Western Australia’s Margaret River founded by Josephine Perry. Jo gained experience in the region at a young age working for Cape Mentelle and went on to study Wine Science at Charles Sturt University. Throughout the next decade, Jo worked vintages in Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux as well as Canary Islands, smaller regions in France and California. Jo established Dormilona in 2012 and shortly after started picking up awards for her winemaking skills.

Jo is all about selecting the right fruit - working with organic grapes from family-owned vineyards grown respectfully with local knowledge and ethical biodynamic practices. She takes a slow, hands-off approach to winemaking, allowing each variety the time it needs to develop complexity and express its varietal character and potential. On top of making great wines, Jo is also doing great things with the Yokel range. These wines are sourced from Swan Valley and part of the profits from these sales go towards helping the native critically endangered Western Swamp Tortoise. To top it all off, Jo is also a judge in some of Australia’s top wine competitions and events - a jack of all trades!

We’ve got a few different wines from Dormilona across a range of different styles. We have the ‘23 ‘Pinku Rose’ made from Shiraz which is deliciously light and fruity. There is also the ‘24 ‘Magic Carpet Pet Nat’ - a fun sparkling made from Swan Valley Chenin Blanc. The ‘23 ‘Yokel Chenin Blanc’ is also sourced from Swan Valley and bears the cute tortoise on the label that some of the proceeds goes towards saving. Finally, the ‘23 ‘Chardonnay’ is a fresh and vibrant Margaret River Chardy bursting with energy. These are some great wines at great prices, give these a try if you haven’t already!
