Piedmont Wine and Truffle Tour
10th-16th November
Ethereal Wines are importers specialising in French and Italian wines, specifically the wines of Piemonte for their Italian portfolio; working with some of the most important producers in the region. They have been running these tours with great success since 2018, with some customers returning for 3 consecutive trips. This is the first time that the trip will also run through truffle season and will include a truffle hunt for the famous Alba white truffle - the most sought after and revered truffles on earth.
This tour will go through some of the most iconic wineries and restaurants in the Barolo and Barbaresco regions, as well as some of the lesser-known nearby appellations such as Alto Piemonte, Carema and Colli Tortonesi. Just a handful of the iconic wineries that you’ll visit include Cavallotto, Sandrone, Massolino, Chiara Boschis and many more. A general overview of the itinerary of the trip looks like this.
10 November – is the meeting date & we spend the first night sharing a dinner before retiring to our hotel in Lombardy on the outskirts of Alto Piemonte.
11 November – we visit the cellars of benchmark producers for wine tastings in Alto Piemonte.
11 November – in the evening we check into the Hotel Calissano in Alba. There are no further hotel moves for the course of the tour. We stay at the Calissano
until the morning of 16 November.
12 – 15 November – is spent visiting cellars & tasting wines across Barolo, Barbaresco & Tortona. Lunches are had at top restaurants in the various villages of Barolo & Barbaresco. As well as some lunches at winery visits. Evening meals are had in some of Alba’s best restaurants – save for two rest nights of 12 & 14 November.
All of the tastings and meals at Michelin-starred restaurants are covered with the cost of the ticket, save for the flights and the 2 dinners on the rest days. The tour cost would be roughly $7,500/person depending on the final itinerary and exchange rate closer to departure. Here are just a couple of testimonies to the trip:
Phil & Catriona (3 time tourers) – “We enjoy Rody’s Nebbiolo Nirvana tour so much we have done it three years in a row! We have previously done our own DIY trip but Rody has the contacts to get into so many special wineries where you get to meet the owners, share their passion for Nebbiolo and taste their very best wines. Rody’s knowledge of the Piedmont wines and restaurants is second to none. And you don’t have to worry about driving! We thought we were familiar with Barolo and Barbaresco wines but we always learn more each trip. It is hard to imagine a more exciting wine experience!”
Michael J. Corbett - Vanguardist Wines -
"Stepping foot in the vineyards, wineries, and restaurants steeped in tradition throughout Piedmont is an experience I will never forget. Meeting the people behind the labels, facilitated by Rody's extensive knowledge and long-standing connections, lead to a deep connection with the wines and the region. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough and can’t wait until I can join Rody again.”
Tony & Genevieve Phillips –
“At short notice and limited insight on what we were in for , we had the pleasure of being part of one of the best experiences of our lives. Of course it’s about the wine, of which we tasted over 250, but it became so much more. We met the most beautiful people, families dedicated to their craft. Extraordinary food, meeting like minded tourers, some who have become close friends. The scenery is spectacular, the insights and access beyond anything you could do on your own. In summary an amazing experience of extraordinary wine, food, culture, scenery, people.. and based on what you get to do- great value too. Five stars!”
MEET
THE MAKER
Spinifex Tasting
Wednesday 25th September 5:30pm-7pm
This Wednesday we'll be hosting the winemaker of Spinifex - Pete Schell as he pours and talks through the fantastic wines with you. Spinifex are based in the Barossa Valley, crafting wines that speak of their place and show some restraint and nuance that can be hard to find in Barossa. Pete Schell has been hailed as one of Australia's great winemakers and has been setting a great example for some of the others in the region. These are the wines he'll be pouring:
2023 Spinifex Rose
2021 Syrah
2022 Papillon (Cinsault/Grenache)
2022 La Maline
2022 Indigene
2022 Moppa
Those last 3 wines are his top flagship wines and will be one of the first times he's pouring them for customers as he is in Sydney to promote their release. Join us for a taste of a great flight of Barossa wines and a chat with the man himself. See you there!
