Poppelvej Tasting

6th July 3-6PM

Join us this Saturday for an exciting tasting of Poppelvej's wines. Some of you may remember Poppelvej from the Tuesday email 2 weeks ago; for those that don't, Uffe Poppelvej is a Danish winemaker making unique wines out of a small shed in Mclaren Vale with fruit from Mclaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. Uffe only sources grapes from sustainable vineyards and takes a hands-off approach in the cellar. These are the wines we'll be showcasing on the day:

Poppelvej 'RA' Greco 2023

Poppelvej 'Aeventry' Gewurztraminer 2023

Poppelvej 'Lille' Terodelgo 2022

Poppelvej 'Blue Rose Case' Cinsault 20223

Poppelvej 'Sort Sol' Cabernet Franc 2023

All of these wines are fresh and exciting so come on down to the store this Saturday to try something different. - Aaron C.

Domaine Tempier

Domaine Tempier is the most iconic estate of the beautiful Bandol region in Provence, South West France. Tempier are known for producing some of, if not the best expression of Mourvèdre (or Mataro as us Aussies call it) in the world using biodynamic principles. The reds are some of the most age-worthy reds out there, picking up flavours of forest floor, leather and game as they age.

I've selected 3 different wines from this estate to showcase here (although we have more on our site). Firstly, the rosé is one of the best Provence rosés out there - made from roughly 50% Mourvèdre with Grenache and Cinsault in the blend too. We've just had quite a few boxes of this arrive in the store (and have already sold a dozen or so) and wanted to share these all with you. We've also got some of the 'Lulu & Lucien' Cuvée Classique which is the entry level wine of the red range. This is an absolutely sensational wine and the perfect companion to these cold winter months. This can age for decades but can be drunk now with a good decant and some meat. Finally, one of their unique single-vineyard expressions: 'La Tourtine'. This wine is a majestic monster that will only improve in the cellar over the next couple decades. - Aaron C.

Singlefile

Singlefile is the project of 2 geologists: Phil and Viv Snowden co-founded with their daughter Pam and son-in-law Patrick Corbett. Patrick and Pam lived in Italy as a young couple and introduced Phil and Viv to Italy’s great wines and travelled the Old World wine regions together - igniting the flame that would eventually lead to the creation of this winery. The estate is located in the sub-region of Denmark in WA’s Great Southern region which is one of the most isolated wine regions in the world - a 4-5 hour drive southwest from Perth.

Singlefile pride themselves on representing the potential of the Great Southern region which has quickly established itself as one of Australia’s most exciting wine regions. Its geography is a patchwork of coastal maritime land, gently undulating hills, open grazing country, eucalypt forests and granite outcrops. Phil and Viv live on this property in Denmark while Pam and Patrick are taking care of business on the east coast. Singlefile always aim for quality with their wines through hands-off minimal intervention approach in both the vineyard and cellar. This more natural approach to winemaking is what allows the difference and nuances in the terroir to shine through in the final product, resulting in unique wines of quality.

We have a few wines from their range to show you, with some more coming in the new financial year. The Great Southern Riesling is a great example of Riesling from the region, showcasing a nice grapefruit and citrus characteristic that I often associate with Great Southern Rieslings. We also have some of the 'Clement V' shiraz-dominant SGM blend from Great Southern which was my favourite wine of the lineup that displayed some excellent spice and earthy notes along with fresh berry fruits. We have both the '22 Cabernet/Merlot blend from Great Southern and the '19 Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon which are excellent fuller-bodied wines for these freezing winter months. Anyone that is already a fan of WA's Margaret River or wanting to branch out should seek out some of these Singlefile wines from Great Southern. - Aaron C.
