Tom Shobbrook Tasting Saturday 10th August 3pm-6pm
This Saturday we'll be showcasing the ecstatic wines of Tom Shobbrook - one of the prominent members of the minimal intervention wine movement in Australia. Based in the Flaxman Valley district of the famous Eden Valley, Tom makes wines with exceptional character and personality in a more refined style to what is typical of the Barossa Zone. These are the wines that we'll be pouring on the day:
Sammion
Chardonnay
Pedro
Riesling
Giallo
Grenache
Poco Rosso
This is a fantastically diverse lineup of wines that'll definitely leave an impression on you. See you there!Bindi
Bindi is a producer that I'm sure doesn't need an introduction to most of you. Although, as this estate is small and elusive, it's possible you haven't heard too much about them. The Bindi farm is located in the Macedon Ranges, roughly 50km NW of Melbourne. It is here that they have built a name for themselves as one of, if not the greatest producer of Pinot and Chardonnay in the country in a very 'Burgundian' style. There is a reason why almost their entire portfolio is listed on the Langton's classification.
These wines are so sought after that I'm surprised we still have some left which is why I'm reminding you of the last of these now. The Kostas Rind is such a special Chardonnay that don't think I would want to drink any other Aussie Chardonnay at this price point. The '17 and '18 vintages of the 'Darshan' Pinot present an excellent opportunity to taste 2 excellent Pinots side-by-side with a decent amount of age on them for these to be in their ideal drinking windows right now. The '17 vintage was cooler while '18 was warmer and this can really be seen in the glass. Pick up the last of our Bindi allocation before we sell all of these too!----------------
Christian Moreau
Christian Moreau is one of the best producers working out of Chablis, with 6 generations of rich family history in the region. The Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils as we know it today was formed in 2001 with the son Fabian having control of operations since then after a handover and blessing from his father Christian.
As my father says, “Chablis is unique”, and our goal is to show it!”
At every single step of the winemaking process, they work to respect the terroir, vines and grapes to create pure wines that are characteristic of Chablis. In the vineyard, they plow, use organic fertilizers and zero pesticides on their soils since 2004; with Organic certification in 2013. All grapes are hand-harvested with rigorous grape-selection, slow pneumatic pressing and the juice is vinified by natural yeasts only with carefully chosen oak and stainless steel to get the most out of each wine. Christian Moreau also have excellent holdings in choice Grand Cru vineyards, with about 12 hectares in total in these GC holdings. These are wines of precision, crystal-clear typicity and elegance, that will age gracefully while still offering immediate enjoyability too.
We have a range of wines from Christian Moreau across the hierarchy: from Petit Chablis up to Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines, all from the 2022 vintage. The 'Petit Chablis' is an excellent introduction this this prestigious estate. In fact, the vines for this wine are located extremely close to the vines that go into the Grand Cru Valmur. We also have the 'Cuvee Guy Moreau Vaillon' Premier Cru wine which comes from a parcel planted by Guy Moreau back in 1933 - the oldest vines the estate owns. From their Grand Cru offerings, we have both the 'Les Clos' and 'Valmur'. Christian Moreau owns a full 3 hectare parcel in this 'Les Clos' vineyard which runs from the bottom of the slope to the top, enabling them to separate the bottom, middle and top to be vinified separately and then blended together at the end. The 'Valmur' site is mainly composed of clay and produces a more intense and powerful wine. This is an exceptional Chablis producer that should be on the horizons of all lovers of Chablis!
