Two Tonne Tasmania

Saturday 24th of February

3-6 PM

Tassie native Ricky Evans is the man behind Two Tonne Tasmania and is one of the producers that always has a place on the shelves at Annandale Cellars. I have a feeling his wines were some of the first boxes I moved (and potentially lost) when I started working here quite some time ago now…

His background was in the more corporate side of winemaking, however his passion lay elsewhere so in 2013 on the back of a trade for two tonnes of fruit for some winemaking work the journey began. The idea behind Two Tonne is simple... "Small parcels. Big love."

As the Two Tonne project has grown, Ricky has stayed true to his word, producing three small batches of Pinot noir, sourced from three different regions across Tasmania. He also makes Chardonnay and Riesling from the Tamar, as well as producing a more premium set of wines under the Woodlawn label which we have featured in the past.

All of his wines are brilliant expressions of Tasmania's various regions, and utterly delicious to drink. They are all flavour focussed and generous in style, offering wines that are ready to be enjoyed on release. In 2016, Ricky was awarded the People's Choice in the Young Gun of Wine Awards. Not surprising really. I'm pretty confident in saying these are some of the most popular wines that we sell. If you've not tried them before then now is your chance to change that. - Pete L

 Yeringberg

The de Pury family are pioneers in the Yarra Valley. Their family winery, Yeringberg has one of the longest histories in the region going back to the mid 1800s. The most recent incarnation of Yeringberg started in 1969 when the decision was made to replant their vineyards and gradually restore their old sites to their former glory. These low yielding vines are the secret to their success, producing a suite of wines that are emblematic of the very best the Yarra Valley has to offer.

Now under the control Sandra de Pury, leaving a very successful corporate career behind to return to the family business and guide the Yeringberg winery. She completed her Oenology degree and became the fourth generation of de Pury at the helm and has refined the quality of wines produced at this estate. They are elegant, varietal expressions that are true to the region and the wines produced by the de Pury family over four generations.

These wines are made in very small quantities and deserve your attention. Worthy of cellaring, care and contemplation when consuming and we expect them to not be available for very long. - Pete L

Crawford River

This is a release we know many of you look forward to every year, as the wines get snapped up with speed and for good reason... Crawford River make some of, if not the best Riesling in the country and this release is another hit. Only issue with this pedigree is the volumes offered to us each year. We've only got two dozen of each wine.

The Thomson family first planted vines on their property in South-West Victoria in 1975 focussing on Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling after realising the potential their family property had. It had been in the family since 1886 and like the rest of that region their land was used for grazing livestock.

Their forward thinking and tenacity helped to carve out a new wine region, now known as the GI Henty and along with producers like Hochkirch are making some of our favourite wines.

Belinda Thomson is now running the show, taking over from her father John who she trained under, as well as completing many vintages overseas for nearly a decade. Under her stewardship the wines have gone from strength to strength and have now become hot property in the wine world.

These wines are age worthy, classic examples of the best of what Australia has to offer in Riesling and their Cabernet's are excellent too! - Pete L
