Translation missing: en.Catalunya (non-Priorat): Catalunya (non-Priorat)
Catalunya outside of Priorat is one of Spain’s most diverse and underappreciated wine areas. With a wide range of climates, altitudes, and styles, the region produces everything from crisp Mediterranean whites to structured reds and high-quality sparkling wines. It offers excellent value and stylistic variety.
LOCATION:
Catalunya is located in northeastern Spain, stretching from the Pyrenees in the north to the Mediterranean coast.
TERROIR:
The region encompasses coastal Mediterranean zones, inland plains, and higher-altitude mountain vineyards. Soils range from limestone and clay to granite and alluvial deposits. Coastal influence moderates temperatures near the sea, while inland areas experience more continental conditions.
VARIETIES:
Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada dominate white production, particularly for sparkling wines. Garnacha, Cariñena, and Tempranillo are the most common reds, with increasing plantings of international varieties.
