Translation missing: en.Priorat: Priorat
Priorat is one of Spain’s most dramatic and distinctive wine regions, both in landscape and in style. Internationally recognised for its intensity and mineral character, the region has increasingly shifted toward more restrained, site-focused expressions while retaining its natural power.
LOCATION:
Priorat is located inland in southwestern Catalonia, north of Tarragona and away from the Mediterranean coast.
TERROIR:
The defining feature of Priorat is its llicorella soil — fractured slate mixed with quartz. These poor, free-draining soils force vines to dig deep for water, resulting in low yields and concentrated fruit. The climate is hot and dry, moderated in places by altitude.
VARIETIES:
Garnacha and Cariñena form the backbone of Priorat wines. International varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah appear less frequently today. White wines are rare and mainly based on Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo.
PRODUCERS:
Clos Mogador, Alvaro Palacios, Terroir al Límit, Cellers de Scala, Familia Nin-Ortiz
