Collection: Aldo Conterno
Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of the great names of Barolo, based in the Bussia cru of Monforte d’Alba. The estate was founded in 1969 when Aldo Conterno, after time spent in California and alongside his brother at Giacomo Conterno, established his own winery with a vision of marrying Barolo’s tradition with a modern, more approachable style. Today, the estate is run by his sons, Franco, Stefano and Giacomo, who carry forward their father’s philosophy.
The heart of the domaine is its 25 hectares of vineyards, including some of Bussia’s finest parcels—Cicala, Colonnello and Romirasco—planted mainly to Nebbiolo on clay-limestone soils at around 400 metres altitude. Farming is attentive and sustainable, with a focus on low yields and careful fruit selection. In the cellar, fermentations are traditional but ageing is in large Slavonian oak casks, producing Barolos that are structured yet refined, capable of both early approachability and long ageing.
Alongside Barolo, the estate also produces wines from Barbera, Dolcetto, and international varieties, but it is the Nebbiolo that has secured Aldo Conterno’s reputation. Powerful, elegant and deeply rooted in Monforte’s terroir, these wines remain benchmarks of Barolo and a lasting testament to Aldo’s vision.
