Collection: Château du Cèdre
Château du Cèdre is a family-run estate in Cahors, established in the 1970s by Charles Verhaeghe and his wife Marie-Thérèse, transforming their mixed farm into a place dedicated to wine. The estate gained momentum under their sons, Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, who brought modern winemaking expertise and rigorous vineyard practices, elevating Château du Cèdre to a leading position in the appellation.
Spanning approximately 27 hectares, the vineyards straddle Cahors’s prized limestone scree cones and “troisième” and “quatrième” terraces—terroirs prized for producing Malbec with both elegance and structure. The estate’s planted varieties reflect the region, with 90% Malbec complemented by Merlot and Tannat, alongside small blocks of Viognier and classic Bordeaux whites.
Château du Cèdre embraced organic viticulture early, banning synthetic chemicals in the early 2000s and achieving official organic certification around a decade later. In the cellar, fermentations are driven by native yeasts and teams favour gentle extraction, with wines aged in large oak casks and foudres to build texture and nuance without overpowering site character. The estate also offers a “Extra Libre” range—no added sulfur wines vinified on lees—showcasing the purity of the fruit and the strength of their organic practices.
Today, with Pascal’s sons Jules and Robin joining the venture, the estate continues to evolve while remaining deeply anchored in terroir. Château du Cèdre is celebrated for producing focused, elegant Cahors that marry the power of the region’s Malbec with finesse, freshness, and remarkable ageing potential.
