Collection: Damiano Ciolli

There are two distinct types of Cesanese in Lazio. Cesanese Comune is the more widely grown work horse variety that supplies much of Rome's vino della casa. The more superior Cesanese d'Affile, also known as Cesanese del Piglio, is a distinct sub-variety regarded by many as the Pinot Noir of central Italy.

The Ciolli family have been growing Cesanese d'Affile for five generations on their estate, located 45 kilometres southeast of Rome. The young Damiano took over from his father at the age of 23, somewhat dismayed at the poor reputation of his region's wines, yet encouraged by their precious old vines.
