Douloufakis is a third-generation, family-run winery based in Dafnes, a hillside village just south of Heraklion on Crete. The current generation is led by Nikos Douloufakis, who studied oenology in Alba, Italy, and has modernized vineyard and cellar practices while staying rooted in tradition. The estate owns about 20 hectares of vineyards at 350-400 metres elevation, and works with a further 25 hectares of partnered vineyards nearby, all farmed organically. Their plantings focus on Cretan indigenous varieties—Vidiano, Vilana, Liatiko, Kotsifali, Mandilari, Malvasia di Candia, Moschato Spinas—as well as select international grapes. Douloufakis is known for bringing out purity, texture and freshness in Crete’s wines, with sensitive winemaking, experimentation (skin contact, amphora ageing, sparkling), and wines that express both local climate and varietal character.
