Collection: Eastern Peake
Eastern Peake is a small, family-run estate in Coghills Creek near Ballarat, founded in the 1980s by Norman Latta and now guided by his son Owen. The vineyards sit on volcanic soils at around 430 metres altitude, a cool and windswept site that naturally produces fruit of delicacy, structure and bright acidity. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the main focus, with Syrah also playing an important role, each variety shaped by the high-altitude climate and the purity of the soils.
Farming is sustainable and low-input, with an emphasis on maintaining vineyard health and balance. In the cellar, Owen Latta follows a hands-off approach, favouring wild fermentations, minimal additions and gentle handling to capture site transparency. Maturation takes place mainly in older French oak, allowing the wines’ natural texture and minerality to shine through.
Eastern Peake has built a reputation for producing finely structured, elegant wines that speak clearly of their terroir. Today, the estate is recognised as one of Victoria’s most distinctive cool-climate producers, combining family heritage with a modern, thoughtful approach.
