Collection: Hubert Soreau

Hubert Soreau is a small, highly meticulous grower-producer in Épernay, known for producing extremely rare, single-vineyard, single-vintage Champagnes from a historic walled plot called Le Clos l'Abbé. His approach is artisanal and non-interventionist, focused on expressing the unique character of this ancient site.

Hubert Soreau, an "outsider" to the Champagne region, arrived two decades ago and honed his skills working in local vineyards before purchasing his own parcel in 1993, adding to it in 2003. He treats his single vineyard "less like a winemaker and more like a monk". This vineyard, Le Clos l'Abbé, has a history dating back to the 9th century when it was first planted by monks, and its wines were once kept under lock and key. Soreau operates with precision and patience, prioritizing the natural expression of the land over conventional industry practices.

The domaine's entire production comes from the tiny 0.35-acre Le Clos l'Abbé, a walled vineyard located where the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs meet, just outside Épernay. The primary grape is Chardonnay. The soils are predominantly Cretaceous chalk with clay and silt, a composition that allows the deep vine roots to access moisture and nutrients, contributing profound minerality and structure to the wine.
