Italy is without a doubt one of the greatest wine-producing countries in the world, with a history of winemaking extending well before the time of the Romans. No other country has as many indigenous varieties that provide a unique point of difference in the market and so many distinct regions. Great wine is produced throughout the country, from the Barolo of Piemonte, Brunello of Tuscany and Etna Rosso of Sicily. There are also many unique white grape varieties that often slip under the radar that can be equally as compelling. The wines of Italy are also perhaps the most "food-friendly" in the world and there is always more to discover in Italy!
