Collection: Lectus by Cantina Ionis

Cantina Ionis is a family-run producer based in Locorotondo in Puglia’s Valle d’Itria, between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The business was founded by winemaker Giulio Palmisano in the 1970s, with sons Sergio and Mauro joining the family business and establishing the Ionis label in 2008.

Their focus is firmly on the traditional varieties of Puglia, including Primitivo, Negroamaro, Verdeca and Nero di Troia, working across the warm, sun-drenched vineyards of the region. Despite Puglia’s southern location, constant coastal winds and significant shifts between day and night temperatures help the grapes retain freshness and acidity. The wines are made to offer an uncomplicated expression of the region and its native varieties – generous and distinctly southern Italian, but with enough freshness and structure to keep them balanced. Lectus, their Nero di Troia, is a particularly good example of this approach and a chance to explore one of Puglia’s lesser-known indigenous varieties.
