Collection: Pierre Henri Rougeot
Following his graduation, Pierre-Henri dedicated a year to laboring in the vineyards of the renowned Domaine de Montille in Volnay. Subsequently, he ventured into the realm of oak barrel sales for a highly esteemed cooperage in France. This transition exposed him to the inner workings of esteemed wine producers worldwide, where he witnessed firsthand the unwavering commitment, fervor, and expertise of esteemed vignerons such as Philippe Alliet in Chinon, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in Burgundy, and Jean-Francois Ganevat in Jura. These encounters instilled in Pierre-Henri a wealth of knowledge and a remarkable receptiveness to diverse winemaking approaches. He realized that there is no singular method for creating exceptional wines, and this liberating realization prompted him to chart his own course.
In 2010, Pierre-Henri assumed a position of creative authority at Domaine Rougeot, where he spearheaded substantial enhancements in the winemaking processes, ultimately resulting in the exceptional quality for which the winery is known today.
Inspired by Lalou Bize-Leroy, Pierre-Henri possesses an unwavering passion for employing a significant proportion of whole clusters in red wines and utilizing minimal sulfur to magnify and fully express the natural essence of the fruit. He meticulously selects grapes from strategically located plots that adhere to sustainable soil management practices, resulting in lower yields that are nonetheless healthier. The vineyards he chooses to work with all employ organic or environmentally conscious farming methods, and his wines are crafted without the use of oenological additives, allowing them to preserve their authentic regional character. - Peta W
