Created from a crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, Pinotage is the signature grape for South Africa. In fact, it is grown almost exclusively there, apart from very small pockets in the United States and New Zealand.
South African regions such as Stellenbosch and Paarl have helped to showcase Pinotage as a medium-bodied wine that has classic flavours of red berries, earthy forest floor tones, bramble herbaceous notes and a characteristic smokiness that gives the wine a beautiful, savoury edge. The wines pair beautifully with gamey meats and smoked cheese.
