Join us this Saturday for a tasting of some exciting minimal-intervention Italian wines with Giorgio - part of the brains behind one of Sydney’s most loved Italian wine bars, Paski.
We will release more details on the exact lineup this week in the Thursday email as well as on our Instagram page so keep your eyes peeled for those and stay thirsty!Sparkling Wine
Christmas and NYE are rapidly approaching with the classic Christmas lunches now just over a week away. If you haven’t sorted out the drinks for this period then we’ve got you covered.
Everyone loves drinking sparkling wine to celebrate, unfortunately the prices of good Champagne are getting further and further out of reach. Fortunately, there are still plenty of affordable options that don’t come from a region that has the liberty to charge more for the name of Champagne and can still offer great quality at half the price or even less.
The 6 wines below represent excellent value and great choices to bring to such occasions if you want to bring something that everyone will enjoy without taking out a loan or if you’d rather not bring a nice bottle of Champagne to drink with people that may not appreciate the elegance of Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger Chardonnay. A few different styles have been highlighted below to cover all bases and to expose you to some that you may not have tried before. Pick up some of these before it’s too late! Two Paddocks
Two Paddocks is a small family wine producing business run by Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill. The venture started in 1993 with a small vineyard in Central Otago and has slowly grown with some other choice plots in the surrounding area. One of the early winemakers Mike Wolter tragically passed away in 1997 after a workplace incident but Sam has ensured that his legacy lives on as Two Paddocks continue to make better wines year after year.
Two Paddocks have been completely committed to organic viticulture since 2013, having only temporarily deviated from organics prior to that during the establishment of some new vineyards. The low humidity of Central Otago means there is less fungal pressure than other NZ regions and allows them to work organically with a little bit more ease. Two Paddocks have been officially operating under the BioGro programme since the 2017 vintage.
We’ve recently picked up some extra stock from Two Paddocks as they always sell well. We stocked up on the ‘24 ‘Pinot Noir Rose’ which is an excellent choice for anyone craving a rose this summer with a little bit more complexity and intrigue than most. The ‘23 ‘Picnic Pinot Noir’ is an excellent entry level Pinot that is a great option as a first wine from Two Paddocks. The ‘23 ‘Pinot Noir’ is another step up which is a blend of their 4 sites in Central Otago. The 2020 ‘The Last Chance’ is their top wine from a vineyard planted in 1998 on a north-facing schist-based slope. These are some excellent wines from Central Otago that will also make a great gift for mums/grandmothers with the Sam Neill association. Snap these up!
