Drinking well right now, though that rather misses the point of it. This is Andre Bondar's top tier Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills, where the quality of the fruit and the work in the cellar both really start to show. There is proper volume and depth to it, held in shape by plenty of acid, and full malo brings layers of cream and oak spice in over nectarine and white orchard fruit. Give it a few years and it will be something else entirely. - Pete L
Andre Bondar is at the helm of his family's vineyard and making some of the most expressive wines out of South Australia. The Bondar home vineyard is called Rayner and is located in the hills of McLaren Vale where the sub-regions of Blewitt Springs and Seaview meet. This organically farmed vineyard planted on the famous sands of the region is mostly made up of Shiraz and Grenache, with a spattering of Counoise, Mataro, Carignan, Cinsault, Touriga Nacional and Sagrantino. The red wines are generally mid-weight, gloriously perfumed and finely structured. Bondar also sources fruit from other vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills.
