Tasting Notes

The Garden Vineyard, across the hill from us, is owned by the McFall family and has been leased and run by Moorooduc Estate for over ten years. Fruit was hand picked and whole bunches placed directly into the fermenter.

Deep ruby with an earthy nose of sautéed mushrooms, soy, caramelised onion and black pepper spice. On the palate, concentrated sour cherry fruit vies with the pepper spice and mushroom truffle perfume and savouriness. The tannins are firm and the acid is fresh, with meaty, spicy notes that go for days. Match to a rare roast leg of lamb with all the trimmings. - Winemaker Note

Moorooduc Estate is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s founding family wineries, established in 1981 by Richard and Jill McIntyre. From its inception, the estate has been dedicated to producing site-driven, small-batch wines that reflect the region’s cool maritime climate and limestone-rich soils. Over four decades, Moorooduc has earned a reputation for crafting some of the Peninsula’s most refined and age-worthy examples of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Viticulture is conducted with sustainable, low-intervention practices, focusing on vine health, soil vitality and balanced yields. The fruit is hand-picked from estate vineyards around Moorooduc and nearby sites, each contributing distinct expressions of place. In the cellar, winemaking follows a traditional Burgundian approach: wild fermentations, minimal handling, and judicious use of French oak to frame rather than dominate the fruit.

The resulting wines are known for their purity, texture and longevity—Pinot Noirs that combine perfume and fine tannin with savoury depth, and Chardonnays that balance tension, minerality and gentle richness. Under the stewardship of winemaker Kate McIntyre MW, Moorooduc Estate continues to set the standard for elegance and consistency in Mornington Peninsula wine.
