Collection: Poderi Sanguineto
Poderi Sanguineto is a tiny, fiercely traditional estate in Montepulciano, Tuscany, run by Dora Forsoni alongside Patrizia. The property was purchased by Dora’s father Federico in 1958, with Dora eventually taking over the farm and beginning to bottle the wines commercially in the 1990s. Today just six hectares of the roughly 50-hectare property are planted to vines, including Prugnolo Gentile - the local expression of Sangiovese - alongside Canaiolo and Mammolo.
There’s nothing modern or polished about the approach here. The vineyards are farmed without synthetic treatments, fermentations are spontaneous with indigenous yeasts and the reds are aged traditionally in large Slavonian and Allier oak casks. The wines are wonderfully old-school expressions of Montepulciano - savoury, earthy and structured, with beautiful freshness and none of the gloss or heavy oak sometimes associated with modern Tuscan reds.
