Tasting Notes
The recent vintages of Driftwood are a nice step-up! The nose is more about spice and savoury notes and the first taste gives a little sizzle on the tongue. But then came the refreshing hit of of dark cherry fruit with a spicy and savoury end. A vibrant and mid-weight mouthful of darker fruits. 13.5% alc. If it matched with Chicked Parmigiana and fresh salad on a warm night, I reckon it will go with anything but chilli! - Michael L
Thick as Thieves is a one-man, Yarra based operation and that one-man is a guy named Syd.
After 10 years in winemaking, working for some of the Yarra's top producers during that time, Syd's oenological clock started ticking and he decided the time was right to make his own babies.
Not having to answer to bean counters and marketing departments, Thick as Thieves has the freedom to experiment with alternative varieties and styles which means Syd gets to make interesting wines that he loves to drink, not wines that simply sell or are in vogue.
We could list the university qualifications, international travel history and the resume but really , who cares ??!! Thick as Thieves is about the wine in the bottle.
