There's a small section of the Smith's Vineyard that year-on-year produces the best fruit. Adrian has been waiting for the perfect vintage to produce a single site, single block Chardonnay from this fruit, and 2018 was spot on. Right from the outset you know this is a special wine. Complex and intense aromas of white stonefruits, lime zest, freshly cut grapefruit and floral hints come together with cashew oak, gun flint and chalky minerality. It's precise and focused, with plenty of creamy oak to support the vibrant acidity, carrying through to a long and persistent finish. It needs a few years in the cellar, but what a debut! - Felix G
