Tasting Notes
A wonderfully cool and composed expression of Eden Valley Shiraz. Dark cherry, blackberry and red fruits lead into cracked pepper, dried herbs, florals and a subtle earthy, meaty savouriness. There’s real intensity here, but it remains medium-bodied and beautifully controlled, with fresh acidity and long, fine, sinewy tannins giving the wine shape and drive. Mineral and savoury through the finish, with hints of hazelnut and spice. Powerful without being heavy - a precise, energetic and distinctly modern expression of Barossa Shiraz. - Chris L
Agricola Vintners is the wine label from Callum Powell in the Barossa Valley. Callum is the son of Dave Powell, the winemaker who started Torbreck, yet his wines tread a different line. He makes Barossa Valley reds from Shiraz that sit in the same company as Sami Odi with their layered and intricate style, while still maintaining elegance and detail. These are fantastic wines and from such a young producer who has grand plans. Watch this space!
