Tasting Notes
This is the brighter, more lifted of the two Flaxman Valley Shiraz releases from Agricola. Coming from 100-year-old, dry-grown vines, there’s plenty of concentration but it’s carried by beautiful freshness and fine tannins. Blue and black fruits, pepper, dried herbs and that cool alpine character that seems to run through Callum’s wines. Elegant, savoury and seriously impressive Shiraz. - Chris L
Agricola Vintners is the wine label from Callum Powell in the Barossa Valley. Callum is the son of Dave Powell, the winemaker who started Torbreck, yet his wines tread a different line. He makes Barossa Valley reds from Shiraz that sit in the same company as Sami Odi with their layered and intricate style, while still maintaining elegance and detail. These are fantastic wines and from such a young producer who has grand plans. Watch this space!
