Tasting Notes
This comes from the Asbroek vineyard in the Barossa, including some remarkable Shiraz vines planted back in 1864. It’s the darker and more powerful side of Agricola, but still with Callum’s trademark freshness. Loads of dark fruit, dried flowers, exotic spice, pepper and a little gamey savouriness. There’s plenty of depth, but the firm, stony tannins keep everything tight and focused. Proper old-vine Barossa Shiraz, just without the excess. - Chris L
Agricola Vintners is the wine label from Callum Powell in the Barossa Valley. Callum is the son of Dave Powell, the winemaker who started Torbreck, yet his wines tread a different line. He makes Barossa Valley reds from Shiraz that sit in the same company as Sami Odi with their layered and intricate style, while still maintaining elegance and detail. These are fantastic wines and from such a young producer who has grand plans. Watch this space!
