As Champagne prices rise and continue become less accessible we are seeking other options from further afield and I keep landing in Franciacorta for my fix. I think this region is about to be the next big thing in Italy as it's producing sparkling wines that sit comfortably alongside their French neighbours. Alessandra Divella is one of the new wave of producers helping to move the region away from the commercialised bulk production it's traditionally known for. She purchased a couple of hectares of vines that have always been farmed organically and has continued to farm that way. The wines are made completely naturally and highlight the quality of her work in the vineyards as the wine is pristine, focused and so precise. The lees ageing adds the layers of baked bread and ripe harder orchard fruits balanced with this gorgeous linear acidity. Please try this. - Pete L
Alessandra Divella is making some of the most exciting sparkling wines from the Franciacorta region in Lombardy, Italy. Alessandra is not only a young and vibrant personality of the region but her wines reflect this youthful exuberance. The sparklings are all bone-dry (zero dosage), laser focused and clean as a whistle. Her processes are minimal intervention and she is a true artisan of sparkling wines, much like the beloved growers of Champagne. One to watch, but also one to seek out now.
