Tasting Notes
The Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru is the undisputed crown jewel and "king" of the estate, widely considered the definitive benchmark for the entire appellation. Sourced from a prized 2.56-hectare mosaic of old vines resting on south-facing, iron-tinged marl and brown limestone soils, this masterpiece is subjected to strict low yields, traditional plowing, and up to 100% new oak maturation to harness its immense structural potential. The resulting wine reveals a brooding, magnificently complex nose of black cherry, wild plum, exotic spices, forest floor, and incense. On the palate, it commands attention with an intensely concentrated, broad-shouldered framework; yet, it paradoxically preserves an ultra-fine, velvety texture where powerful, muscular dark fruit seamlessly integrates with a deep, iron-like minerality. It yields an extraordinarily persistent, youthfully austere finish underpinned by powdery tannins, delivering a monumental "grandeur" that demands at least 15 to 30+ years of cellaring to fully unlock its legendary, multifaceted depth. - Chris L
