Tasting Notes
You have probably seen people liken Italian Nebbiolo to Burgundy’s Pinot Noir, and you may think someone has lost their marbles. But here is a Nebbiolo that helps understand the link. First, it’s not from the sometimes warm and humid Piedmont; but from Lombardy (Valtellina) near the cooler Swiss border. Second, these grapes are grown organically and the winemaking is natural (think minimal additives), and the new oak is missing in action.
ArPePe Nebbiolo needs to decant for a few hours, then comes the lifted lighter raspberry and other red berries and a hint of leaf. Elegant red fruits, fine chalk tannin and good acid to balance. Sound like a Burgundy? Well only if compared to a Burgundy that left-out the new oak! 13.5% alc. Whatever, it’s a fine wine! - Michael L
