Tasting Notes
Valtellina, in Lombardy, is one of my favourite regions of Italy. You're in high altitude Nebbiolo territory here, with less of a name than it's neighbour in Piedmont, Barolo, so they're cheaper, which is a win for all of us! This Rosso is mostly Chiavennasca (the local name for Nebbiolo) with a smidge of some pretty unique local varieties - Rossola, Rossolino Rosa, Brugnola, Pignola and Negrera. The 50 year old vineyards are steeply sloped from altitudes of 380m to 630m. The wine was fermented in a mix of concrete and stainless steel. - Chris L
It’s classic nebbiolo but a nicely softer and lighter taste than the Barolo nebbiolo version. Ripe savoury red fruits with those classic nebbiolo tannins. Give it a few moments after opening, or decant. The lighter mouthfeel fits both red and white meats. Fine quality. - Michael L.
