Tasting Notes
This comes from a tiny 0.25 hectare block of Chardonnay on the Broderick family vineyard in Basket Range, planted on a gentle north-east facing slope just behind the winery. Sholto whole-bunch presses the fruit before fermentation and élevage in French oak, with only four barrels ultimately selected for the wine. There’s white nectarine and citrus, some nutty complexity and a touch of smoky reduction, with plenty of texture from the lees and oak. It has good concentration, but the acidity keeps everything tight and focused. A serious, finely structured Adelaide Hills Chardonnay and a big step up from the Hills bottling. - Chris L
