Tasting Notes
I adore the wines by Tom & Sally Belford and their Syrah is no exception. Initially a little spritzy showing white pepper, green stalk and restrained fruit. Let it open up and it's almost a completely different wine. The bright red fruits come to the forefront and bounce along your palate joyfully.
This wine is produced using carbonic maceration, a technique whereby the fermentation of whole bunches takes place in the presence of carbon dioxide. The result is a lighter bodied but full flavoured, fresh and crunchy wine with a little spritz. Nuances of savoury, spicy, bunchy characteristics show themselves among red fruits. My advice is to decant well and early to release the spritz and see this incredible wine come to life. - Chris L
Bobar is the playfully cheeky French term that means "a little messed up"... the wines are certainly not. These are fabulous wines from Tom Belford and his wife Sally, where they have drawn inspiration from their wine making experiences in Beaujolais. Yarra Valley wine for sure, but with an edginess... a new look at Yarra... well worth having a look at.
